How About A World Without Hair Dressers?

I am pretty sure many of you will gasp with panic if the world announces that there will be no hair dressers tomorrow when we wake up.

Personally, I have a relationship so solid with my hair dresser that it out runs any relationships I’ve ever had, 20 years and counting!

I wanted to be a hair dresser.

This was my very first personal “big dream” around age 12–14. I thought people who could do beautiful braids were miracle workers (after all, wearing beautiful braids made me a happy girl since pre-kindergarten.)

I told this dream to a close friend at school.

“It will be such a waste if you become a hair dresser!”

She was serious. She looked so concerned. She certainly didn’t think I was in my right mind.

You see, I was at the top of my class since first grade. In my culture, I was the “golden” student who was meant to go to university and destined to have a “bright” future. Hair dressers were for those who couldn’t do well enough in school to go to university.

I abandoned my hair dresser dream because I didn’t want to be a waste or I thought I SHOULD NOT be. I was raised and educated from the other side of this spectrum.

Would I had been a damn good hair dresser; as good as what I was in my later career choices?

We will never know. Probably not, since later I discovered that I didn’t like to touch other people’s hair. (LOL)

But this understanding of myself will be a FAR BETTER reason than the one coming from my classmate/friend.

Hell, many of us can live without financial advisor or LV bag but not hair dressers. So, exactly, which profession is more noble?!

And you know what, I got into the habit of asking hair dressers the reason of their professional choice. Whether they are where they are voluntarily or not, those who are good at their job, they are passionate about it! Like very passionate. I would say, that beats many “university people.”

There is really no such thing as waste or lesser.

Stop weighing and judging your choices, dreams and how you “use” your time by the societal measurement of perception of values.

Instead, be passionate about your choices, dreams and how you spend each second of your time.

Because, whatever you do, there will always be someone who can not live without it.

So, what’s your “hair dresser dream”?
